As parents and educators know, it is important to teach children about diversity. It is important for them to be exposed to people of different skin colors, ethnicities, abilities and more so that they may be able to have empathy and cooperate with others in society regardless of how different they may seem. After all, we’re all part of the same world. We’re all human. With this in mind, adults have been trying to think of ways to teach children this lesson in an engaging manner. One of these solutions is through literature. On the surface, this seems like a perfect idea. After all, there are many books out there with characters of many different skin types, cultures, and abilities. Or aren’t there?
Use this space to share your thoughts, ideas, opinions, challenges and aspirations about raising the first generation of children who are growing up in our digitally enhanced world. No beating around the bush, just put it plainly!
