As parents and educators know, it is important to teach children about diversity. It is important for them to be exposed to people of different skin colors, ethnicities, abilities and more so that they may be able to have empathy and cooperate with others in society regardless of how different they may seem. After all, we’re all part of the same world. We’re all human. With this in mind, adults have been trying to think of ways to teach children this lesson in an engaging manner. One of these solutions is through literature. On the surface, this seems like a perfect idea. After all, there are many books out there with characters of many different skin types, cultures, and abilities. Or aren’t there?
Books supporting different reading strategies
Have you ever closed your eyes and tried unsuccessfully to understand what someone is saying to you? I have that problem. I’m a visual learner and it helps me to see who is talking to me. Others close their eyes, absorb what they hear and love all they are learning. Another group likes to be moving around when they learn. They need to ‘feel’ the new information. They are kinetic learners. We all have our way of learning and learning to read.

Becoming a parent is a unique responsibility. Once you have a child, you are their parent forever, and it is your duty to raise them well enough so that they may have a successful future and be able to contribute to society in some way. Often, new parents are eager to take on the task, with many vowing to be the best mom or dad that their kids could ever hope for. But they soon discover that they have an important question: How exactly should they raise their child?
Tips on connecting with children who are differently sight-abled
The Google dictionary defines empathy as “the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.” To be able to empathize with others you need to include them in your life and get to know them. One way to do this is through books. They are a great way to ‘meet’ new people who are different from the reader.
We often hear about the importance of creating healthy bonds and attachments between parents and children. But what does that really mean? Why is that important? And how do we make that happen?
Facts and expert recommendations seem to be at odds, when it comes to screen time for little ones. Kids under 9 spend more than 2 hours a day on screens, according to the CNN report below. While this number is higher than what the American Association of Pediatricians recommends, the expert in the CNN interview is cautious enough to conclude that each household should decide what is appropriate for them. Another recent report (The 2017 Common Sense Census) presents a few interesting findings. The availability of smart devices (phones and tablets) in the households has increased drastically since 2011. As such, these mobile devices are becoming the primary medium for consumption of online content by kids, in lieu of TV. The same report notes, "Contrary to recommendations from pediatricians, many children use media shortly before bedtime, and many families leave the TV on in the background most of the time."
What is the reality in your household? What do you consider the appropriate screen time for your kid(s)?
"Gratitude is a powerful process for shifting your energy and bringing more of what you want into your life. Be grateful for what you already have and you will attract more good things” by Rhonda Byrne
Simply put, gratitude or thankfulness is the practice of saying Thank You! Gratitude is the expression of enthusiasm. Give thanks to everybody for everything. Remember gratitude ranks high on the list of the seven most important positive emotions. Being grateful for what you already have is the sure way of getting more. Remember the creative process: Ask – Believe – Receive!
There are two things to emphasize here. First, you must always “pray” - ask for something or visualize your desire – with the assurance that it has already been granted. Give thanks to the Infinite Intelligence for having accepted your prayer already. As a matter of fact, your prayers are always. The problem often is a confusion about what you pray for. Second, whenever you receive a favor from someone, always make sure you express your profound gratitude. It does not matter how little or big of a favor. It does not matter either if your benefactor is a close parent or a complete stranger. Always say Thank You! Gratitude unlocks the door to opportunities, while the lack of it locks those doors tightly. Gratitude also keeps negative emotions away from you, allowing you to vibrate high and get what you desire faster. Develop the habit of writing thank you notes, thank you emails, or thank you texts, if you do not have a chance to do it orally. Be grateful about your current situation, be it the support of your family, your health, your financial and social status, etc.
Gratitude breeds hope and faith and inspires action. Gratitude is a form of praise. Just like water expands when heated but contracts when frozen, whatever (including people) you praise expands. Praise is not intended for flattering the Infinite Intelligence. Praise raises the vibration of the operator (you), hence takes you closer to the things and conditions you seek. Recall the great Law of Vibration! So, can you write a list of seven things you are grateful for in your life?
"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough" by Oprah Winfrey
"Success means many wonderful, positive things. Success means personal prosperity: a fine home, vacations, travel, new things, financial security, giving your children maximum advantages." by David J. Schwartz
A successful life is a compilation of successful months, days, minutes, and seconds, which, in the end, translates simply into a compilation of successful tasks. Your end goal is Happiness, which generally is defined as: Health, Wealth and Love, in that order. You need to maintain a balanced life between the spiritual, mental and physical realms of your being. The main departments of your life to create success metrics in are: health and wellness, personal growth, family, money, career, relationships, and spirituality.
As great material comfort is quite important and legitimate, because you live in a material body. We need to be as much at ease at we desire in order to express our being and potential fully.
Focus on the journey, rather than the achievement. Money is very important in our modern society. However, you should desire money for the sake of it. Desire to accumulate money for its purpose: a means of transaction. No matter how much of it you desire to possess, keep money in its right place. Always remember money is a good servant but a very poor master. So, what is your definition of success?
"Success is something you attract by the person you become." by Jim Rohn
"There is no blackboard in the sky on which God has written your purpose, your mission in life. There's no blackboard in the sky that says, "Neale Donald Walsch. Handsome guy who lived in the first part of the twenty-first century, who ... "And then there's a blank. And all I have to do to really understand what I'm doing here, why I'm here, is to find that blackboard and find out what God really has in mind for me. But the blackboard doesn't exist. So your purpose is what you say it is. Your mission is the mission you give yourself your life will be what you create it as, and no one will stand in judgment of it, now or ever." by Neale Donald Walsch
The purpose of life for humankind is GROWTH! So is yours. Actually, all forms of life are under the same urge. Just look around you. Look at plants and the lower animals. You place a seed in the soil for example, water it, give it the appropriate nutrients and allow it to get the required amount of sunlight. The seed inexorably sprouts and grows into a plant (and later a tree, as may apply). You are under the same urge. You must grow constantly. Because you are a three-fold being, you must maintain a perfect balance between your spiritual, mental and physical dimensions.
The essential condition for growth is to constantly get more. On the physical plane, for instance, growth requires the construction of more cells, which takes food, water and air as inputs. In general terms, getting more requires giving more. This principle is known as the Law of Service. For example, to grow your muscles, you must exercise. To get richer and wealthier as a financier, you must invest more of your money in the first place. To develop your intuition or your power of concentration, you must spend more time studying spiritual volumes and meditating. To get A’s in school, you must study hard and smart.
What happens when life on the physical plane is over? The life principle in you can never “die”. It is Energyby essence, which can only be transmuted into other forms of energy. The life principle in them lives on in finer realms characterized by higher energy – this is going “from glory to glory”.
Create a life purpose for yourself which serves as a framework from which stem all your missions and goals. You can also term this your vision. Develop the right viewpoint of the world. Understand that though things might sound chaotic, the world is always “perfect” at any point in time. It perfectly reflects the state of the collective consciousness. When the world as a whole banishes such things as wars, conflicts, lust, vice, poverty, etc. from the collective consciousness, those things will cease to exist. Do not let the apparent chaos in the system disturb you. Focus your attention on the good and the beauty which abounds everywhere around you. Focus on improving yourself in all areas. Focus on becoming an ever growing human being! Your mission is to improve yourself. Do not go around telling people they have to change. Change yourself, and people will emulate you. But always lend a helping hand to anyone who seeks assistance from you. So, what is your mission in life?
"Every night, (and sometimes during the day), when alone, I would start on my journeys - see new places, cities and countries; live there, meet people and make friendships and acquaintances and, however unbelievable, it is a fact that they were just as dear to me as those in actual life, and not a bit less intense in their manifestations.” by Nikola Tesla
