Red Clover Reader: What’s in it for Authors?

4/10/2018

Red Clover Reader is a developing community of Authors working together to change the way Independent Authors market their work. After all, we become Authors to share our vision of the world, our message, and our stories; not to become marketing experts. Unfortunately, the current reality of being successful as Independent Authors (especially self-published Authors) works out to be 90% marketing (things like Author platforms, email lists, advertising, and influencer outreach, trade shows, networking on social media) and only 10% writing. The Red Clover community is working toward changing this order. Our goal is to give Authors their time back to focus more on their craft and less on self-promotion. We want to give you the type of exposure previously only available to traditionally published Authors (and even more), for FREE ! Click below to read more...

Working with Red Clover Reader is as simple as giving your best to the world and receiving plenty in exchange. Read on!

What you get from the Red Clover community

(a) Free exposure: we offer you several ways to connect with audiences and get feedback for free. For instance, you can sign up for free for Author hangouts, you can have your books and merchandise listed for free in the Red Clover Boutique, etc.

(b) Free ongoing book promotion: Red Clover Reader does NOT charge you anything to have your books and merchandise listed in our Boutique. We do NOT charge you either to participate in any “customer-facing” activities such as receiving and giving direct feedback from/to Parents, Author hangouts, and product delivery.

(c) No upfront or hidden costs working through Red Clover Reader: We never ask you to provide a credit card information. To maintain the platform, we only keep a 15% commission on realized transactions (e.g., print books and/or merchandise sold).

(d) Customer facing interactions: Opportunity to have virtual customer facing interactions, which allows you to build an audience from the comfort of your home. Also, this is a unique chance for you to offer a customized experience to Parents who purchase your work, by delivering your products to them directly (e.g., signed copies, personalized dedications, inclusion of stickers or book marks for greater impact).

(e) Direct feedback: you get an opportunity to receive direct feedback from your readership and be “invited into their homes” via a two-way communication.

(f) Zero risk:
  • You always retain your full copyrights: we never use your copyrighted materials (e.g., pictures, text, etc.) without your explicit consent. Also, we do NOT try to sell your work behind your back. The documents you share with us are solely used for listing and promotions through the Red Clover Reader platform (e.g., website, social media, emails).
  • Your copyrighted materials are protected: There are several protections that Red Clover Reader puts in place to prevent piracy. None of your work (e.g., books and illustrations) is available for free download. It can only be accessed on the site. In addition, you can apply watermarks to your material yourself with minimal practice using a graphic software (e.g., free Inkscape software) or hire a freelancer through an inexpensive site such as Fiverr or Upwork to do that for you.
  • No specific time commitments: you can work with us to promote your work for free for as long as you want. If at any time you choose to end this relationship, you only need to communicate this to us via email.

(g) Non-exclusive partnership: working with Red Clover Reader does NOT prevent you from using other marketing or promotion channels such as your own author platform (e.g., a personal website), social media or major marketplaces (e.g., Amazon)

(h) Transparency and friendliness: we try to make Red Clover Reader’s procedures as transparent and accessible as possible. Our doors are always open to listen to you and work around your circumstances. Better yet, you can make suggestions to improve the way we run the platform to provide more benefits to the entire community.

What you give the Red Clover community

(a) Make your eBooks free available to our audience of dedicated Parents (and their children) to get to know your work and build a relationship with you as an Author. Even established Authors price their eBooks quite low or list them for free on Amazon and other marketplaces to increase reach or exposure.
Check out these examples of featured books on our e-Reader. This is one of the many free book promotion options available to you through Red Clover Reader. We are working on launching it in the coming weeks.

(b) Share a few illustrations with our audience. The illustrations are used to create dynamic slideshows for your book listings. We recommend that you add a watermark to the images before sharing them with us. You can apply watermarks to your material yourself with minimal practice using a graphic software (e.g., free Inkscape software) or hire a freelancer through an inexpensive site such as Fiverr or Upwork to do that for you.

(c) As much as possible, share any enhanced materials (e.g., audios, videos, animations, podcasts) with our audience. The more engaging the content, the more likely Parents and their children are to connect with your work.

(d) Engage virtually with our audience at your most convenient times, by providing feedback to Parents who are interested in your work and your personal story.

(e) Deliver physical books and merchandise in a prompt manner when an order is placed for your items through the Red Clover Reader platform.
